Choosing Reasons

Reasons from Reasons from D************
Now I would like to tell you why I chose Changchun and Jilin University to study. Firstly, I chose the beautiful and cozy city of Changchun for my future residence and graduate studies, because September 2023 to December 2023, I studied under the student exchange program at Northeast Normal University (东北师范大学), I spent the best months of my life and acquired a lot of new knowledge in the field of Chinese. It was at this university that my Chinese language level increased HSK 2 to HSK 4, because it was thanks to our Chinese teachers that I was incredibly interested in immersing myself in learning the grammar and vocabulary of the Chinese language. At that time, I even passed all the intermediate exams in Chinese with 92, 95 and 97 points out of 100 points, for which I am incredibly grateful to my teachers, because it was all thanks to their wise guidance in the classroom and my active participation in our lessons, diligently doing all the homework during the entire period of study. It was in Changchun that I met many interesting people Changchun, made many loyal friends, and actively attended classes with our kind and friendly Chinese teachers. During my stay in China, many strangers readily responded to my requests to help me find a place, actively showed me the way to these places, for which I am very grateful to them to this day. It was in Changchun that I got acquainted with traditional Chinese food, which I was absolutely delighted with. To be honest, my favorite dish now is 锅包肉, even in my hometown Im always trying to find a Chinese restaurant now, as I can no longer live without traditional Chinese food. I really liked the dormitories and academic buildings in Changchun, which were always clean, cozy and very pleasant to be in. All the aunts have always been very friendly to me, I would even say family-like, for which I am also incredibly grateful to them, because you feel at home in the hostel. I also had a very bright and cozy room in my dorm with a view of the zoo, I often went for a walk with friends and watched a bright and colorful show featuring the hero of one of my favorite works, "Journey to the West" by Sun Wukong. It is for all of the above reasons that, after returning to Russia in December 2023, I promised myself that I would apply for a masters degree in my beloved Chinese city of Changchun, which has become my second home for me, my friends are already waiting for me, whom I miss very much! Secondly, I chose the International Relations Masters degree program at Jilin University, as I would really like to study at one of the leading national universities in China, which is very popular among applicants Russia. In addition, the university I studied for my bachelors degree also cooperates on an ongoing basis with Jilin University. Moreover, the International Relations program is very attractive to me, as I want to gain new knowledge and become a first-class specialist in such interesting fields as international law, international relations, Chinese diplomacy, as well as peace and conflict management. During my studies at Jilin University, I plan to actively attend all classes, faithfully do all the homework the faculty, and actively participate in the social and scientific life of the university, since my dream is to study at Jilin University in the fascinating and interesting International Relations program. In addition, during my undergraduate studies in Russia, I also completed advanced training courses in the Project Management program, which also improved my analytical skills, which will directly help me master the International Relations program at Jilin University. During my bachelors degree in Russia, I also successfully mastered such compulsory subjects in our field as "Socio-political translation in Chinese", "Regional Studies of China", "Linguistic and Foreign Studies of China", "Branch translation in the field of regional industry of China", "International Relations" and "Fundamentals of the theory of intercultural communication", this is directly related to my chosen masters degree program at Jilin University. In addition, I would like to enroll in a Chinese language elective in order to improve my level of Chinese and successfully pass the HSK 5 exam, as I have fallen in love with the Chinese language during my 4 years of undergraduate studies and am actively improving my level every day.

The School of International and Public Affairs

People around world are getting closer in time and space with much intensified interactions along with the ongoing development of economic globalization and information society. Public diplomacy and cultural exchanges are playing an increasingly significant role in promoting understandings between ethnic groups, cultures, religions and nations, and help improve the international image of a country. The world is entering the Era of Public Diplomacy. On one hand, as a necessary supplement to governmental diplomacy, public diplomacy has been drawing significant attention by countries worldwide and become an integrated part of the overall diplomacy of certain countries; on the other hand, the governments are also actively engaging non-governmental diplomacy to promote the understanding of other people to know the home country.

The Era of Public Diplomacy calls for new type of talents who are versed in communication and dialogue, and have good knowledge of the world economy, politics and cultural plurality. As an answer to this calling and to promote public diplomacy and cultural exchanges, Jilin University has set up the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) which is the first school oriented in public diplomacy studies among Chinese universities. In 2014 SIPA participated as a founding member in the establishment of “Collaborative Innovation Center of the Theory and Practices of China’s Diplomacy” initiated by China Foreign Affairs University.

The School of International and Public Affairs has being undertaken the English conducted graduate program on 'Contemporary International Relations Studies' since 2006, and has constructed a faculty team pivoted in International Relations while specialized in Law, Economics, Journalism, History and Cross-Cultural Communication, etc. The Dean of SIPA is Prof. Debin Liu, and the Vice-President of China National Association for International Studies. As well, SIPA also includes Barry Buzan who is member of British Academy of Science and a former professor of London School of Economics, Brantly Womack who is the Friendship Award recipient and professor of government and diplomacy in the University of Virginia, etc. as Honorary or Guest Professors.

SIPA combines the training of Chinese students and International students together and adopted English as the working language for main courses. The purpose is to lay out a multiethnic-multicultural platform, promote research in public diplomacy, China studies and international relations, and cultivate a new generation of herald of civility and specialist in communication.

SIPA regularly organizes an international workshop on IR theory and current international issues every year and the annual graduate workshop on East Asia from which some ‘2+2’ and ‘3+1’ joint education programs has been launched with multiple overseas universities. It provides students with at least one year of overseas study experience which benefit their visions and future.

SIPA will steadily uphold the educational ideal of internationalization, inclusiveness, innovation and practice, and will put greater endeavor for the development of public diplomacy disciplines in China.
